Turn right side out and enjoy your new longies!

Butt Sweater Longies Pattern 3

Turn the cut pieces so that the RIGHT sides are facing each other.

Surge or stitch sides and crotch together.

Measure the arm & cut it the length you need for the leg. Add a bit for growing room & seams. Cut it.

The arm/leg will be wide at the top. You need to make it smaller. Take your childs leg measurement & divide it by 2 & add a bit for room. Turn the arm/leg inside out. Mark it.

Stich it so that it is the width you need.

Butt Sweater Longies Pattern 2

Use a plate to make a nice round leg opening.

Finished pattern.

Fold the pattern in half, lining up the top corners. Cut through the layers. This ensures an even pattern.

Unfolded pattern.

Lay pattern on the bottom of the sweater. Depending on the size of the sweater, you may get more than one buttsweater out of it. So make sure it is all the way to one side if it is a big sweater. Cut it out.

2003 Butt Sweater Longies

I have made a tutorial on how to make longies using a wool sweater.
The pages are very graphic intense, so they may load slowly.
I wanted a very detailed tutorial so new sewers can follow along too.
I divided it into 4 posts.
This pattern is for personal use only and items are not to be made and sold for profit.
Measure your child. Around the waist, rise (from the waist in the front to the waist in the back through the legs) & the leg around the largest part.
Gather all your equipment. Paper, pen, ruler & scissors.
Write the measurement on the top corner if you want to make it easier.

Take the waist measurement & divide it in half. Make a line that length across the paper towards the top.

Divide the rise measurement by 2. Measure from the waist line down that amount and make a line 2-4 inches long. Shorter for infants, longer for toddlers

Make slightly diagonal lines to form the sides. It is OK if they are long, as this will be adjusted later.

Measure from the side line to the crotch line. Have it slightly less than half of the leg measurement. Mark it at the top & bottom. No need to draw a straight line.
